On my way home

3 days, 10 flights booked, 2 airport breakdowns, 1 hotel room, and finally I am on my way back to Denver. This is definitely an adventure beyond anything I ever thought would happen.  3 flights to London cancelled, which meant my one flight to Denver was cancelled. Now two days of the same flight plan, but I got bumped off the original one because I am not a priority, good thing I can handle all of this, it should be very good! I got into Dubai at midnight Dubai time (pretty darn late) then an hour and a half in the airport, I went through security, checked into the flight, got a pat-down, then went through more security, got on the world’s longest flight but the food is good on Emirates! I land in Houston, go through security again! Finally I get on a plane to Denver, so that my parents will be happy for the Holidays. It was overall the world’s craziest way to get to Denver, but I made it, and my parents were very happy for the holidays, as was my dog (I did miss her!).
I had an excellent holiday I got the light the Christmas candles at church for the Christmas Eve service. This was because I had travelled the farthest to get there, and it was kind of my goal for the year, and life for that matter! It is very nice to be back in Colorado, but I do miss Scotland a lot, it is my home now, and I can’t wait to go back, and get back to sea-level, and humidity! Now I am officially back to School with 20 credit hours of classes which is 1 over the limit at DU so I am crazy but that’s ok by me! It should be an excellent year, and hopefully I will be able to work enough to get myself a plane ticket to Glasgow (perhaps one via Dubai!)
But because you all must be wondering so much in general about my travels I will talk about those more. Glasgow has a pretty small international airport, but it’s good, I went through security as usual when it was finally time to fly and then sat for 2 hours because the flight was late, and I was also early just to be ridiculously sure in my getting home! I flew perhaps the best flight ever from Glasgow to Dubai, the plane wasn’t full and I sat next to an empty chair which is good for spreading out, and making sure that all my stuff could fit on the flight. The flight did last seven hours which isn’t too bad comparatively and it was very relaxing and fantabulous! They brought around warm towels for us to freshen up before the flight, children got toys and colouring books, and I just got to relax. There is extra leg space for all passengers including the economy seats on Emirates flights (which were very nice even though I have short legs!) I got off the plane feeling pretty good, and it was warm in Dubai and I breathed the air of the Middle East, I must say it was absolutely no different from Colorado air or Glasgow air for that matter so very breathable. I had to take a tram to the actual terminal where I went through security again because I love it ever so much! One other thing about Emirates air before I continue... While flying you can watch video of both the pilots current view of the world and what is happening beneath you. It would have been exceedingly cool if I was flying in or out of Dubai during light hours because then I would have seen it, but it was still pretty sweet!
On to the next adventure! I think that the airport in Dubai is ridiculously big, to get an idea I departed from gate 215 (do you realize how many gates that is) and the airport has like a gazillion floors (ok maybe not) and all sorts of stores and everything it was not enough to take in with just two hours (which is a disappointment) The airport is beautiful though, it is the cleanest airport I have been in, and they had etched glass walls everywhere to protect people, and to allow us to watch passerby. I wish I was able to take more than one fuzzy picture but I was in a rush to get to my gate on time to go through security again! I don’t like 16 hour flights but it got me that much closer to seeing my family which I think they were excited about! Nothing to fantastic about flying to Houston but I think that is a good thing!
Finally back home! (Ok I am not the most excited about the whole thing, but it will be good for now)
